About Peggy Rubin
Peggy Rubin is founding director of the Center for Sacred Theatre in Ashland, Oregon. She is a Shakespearean actress and leads workshops in Living Life as Sacred Theatre and Sacred Studies of the Divine Feminine. Since 1987, she has also been the principal teaching associate of Dr. Jean Houston.
Working with Jean, Peggy has presented classes, workshops and trainings throughout the United States, and in Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Sweden, Greece, Egypt, The Netherlands, India, West Africa, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Jamaica, and on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme, in Albania, St. Lucia, Barbados, Kenya, and the Philippines.
In her book, To Be and How To Be: Transforming Your Life through Sacred Theatre, Peggy highlights the “Nine Powers of Sacred Theatre” to probe the sacred theatre of our lives as a spiritual path of transformation.
Spirituality and Practice summarizes Peggy’s teaching as:
“The metaphor of life as the stage on which we embody our passion and purpose is a rich one…[and]…The important thing to remember is that each of us is the leading character in our life, which means we must do our best to be at our best. It is also essential that we develop the story of our life and put it in sync with the unfolding story of Life on Earth. There is no need to lock ourselves in the past or flee into the future; the present moment offers us ample dramatic opportunities.”
Peggy has studied extensively with Elaine De Beauport, Ed.D., founder of the Mead Institute, leading teacher of humanistic and behavioral applications of current brain/mind research; and with William Emerson, Ph.D., pioneer in the field of pre- and peri-natal psychology, and its importance in understanding human development.
In 2019, Peggy was awarded an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters from Meridian University.
