How to Become a Prayer Chaplain

No prior experience in prayer or praying is required to serve as a Prayer Chaplain. However, being a formal member of UCOA is required to attend the training.

Prayer Chaplains are an extension of our ministry team and help us personally connect with our membership.
Chaplains are trained to do three things:

Hold Spiritual Space
Pray
PC's Are Not...
Unlike hospital, hospice or military chaplains, UCOA prayer chaplains are not:
- ordained;
- trained to counsel people;
- board certified by any nationally known organization.
It is important to understand that Prayer Chaplains are not trained to go out and “minister” to the larger community. But, they are trained as a lay resource to help meet individuals in our community at the point of their need.
Requirements
Those who answer the call are asked to:
- be available for monthly one-on-one prayer with congregants;
- attend prayer Chaplain meetings;
- commit to one year of service;
- attend 14 hours of training.
