Why Be A Member?

Becoming a member of UCOA — both in-person and online — is a step towards taking a deeper commitment to your spiritual life.

It is really a personal choice:

  • to deepen your personal spiritual journey;
  • to practice with your spiritual community consistently; and,
  • it also is a way we grow the love, connection, and expanding gifts of this circle of community.
New Member Ceremony, Feb 2024
Rev. Kathy welcomes our first group of 23 new members, in-person & online, at the New Member Ceremony on February 25, 2024.

Additional Benefits

Membership also enables people:

  • to become board members;

  • includes a 10% discount on retreats and workshops;

  • to vote on important changes to bylaws and activities at UCOA; and,

  • to attend prayer chaplain training and become a prayer chaplain.

What We Practice

As a spiritual community, we practice:

  • Breathing together; we will come back to our breathing in the present moment again and again, as we support each other in living very present, very here, and now.

  • We chant together and sing together — a lot!

  • We listen together, as one body, and transcend the boundaries of a delusive self, as Thich Nhat Nah says, “liberating from the superiority complex, the inferiority complex, and the equality complex.” That’s a deep teaching to go beyond even being equals to truly feeling as one.

  • We take good care of ourselves, and in that way, take care of each other.

  • We co-create happiness and safety.

  • We commit to embody wisdom Truth teachings from Interfaith/World religions.

  • We do our best to live peacefully and consciously, and support each other in doing the same. And we’ll know that everyone in our family, in our entire society, will benefit from our peace.

  • We choose to mindfully follow the path that leads to peace, follow the teachings that lead to greater love and understanding.

What Is Required

Becoming a member requires attending a New Member Introduction & Orientation Session with Rev. Kathy typically following Sunday Service.

This session is a 1.5 hour class learning about the Unity Community of Ashland and the expectations and commitments of membership.

These sessions are offered periodically when there are five or more people ready to become members.

A brief New Member Ceremony honoring both our new in-person and online members is held a week later during Sunday Service.

Begin Now

If you are interested in becoming a member, please download and complete the UCOA New Member Form by clicking the button below. You may return a completed form in-person on Sundays or via email.
